Defence Ministry has no objection to use ALGs for civilian flights
NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the Defence Ministry has no objection to use the Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) in Arunachal Pradesh for both military and civilian purposes.
Dual use of the ALGs would facilitate better air connectivity to the people of the state paving way for all round development, the Defence Minister said, when Chief Minister Pema Khandu called on him in New Delhi on Friday and requested to allow ALGs for civil flights.
Pema informed Parrikar that ALGs at Tawang, Aalo, Walong and Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh are under various stages of progress while the construction works of ALGs at Ziro, Mechuka and Pasighat are complete and were recently operationalized by the IAF.
Meanwhile, Parrikar has assured Pema to visit Arunachal Pradesh in October.
Endangered animals rescued and rehabilitated
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: An endangered Monitor Lizard (Varanus bengalensis), a Slow Loris (Nycticebus caucang), an Indian Sand Boa (Eryx johnii) and a Rhesus Macaque (Macaca mulatta) were rescued from different parts in the state and rehabilitated in Itanagar Zoo.
Monitor Lizard and Slow Loris are listed in schedule-1 of Indian Wildlife Act while Rhesus Macaque is listed in Schedule-II and Sand Boa schedule-IV.
The monitor lizard was rescued by Singkhe Yangfo, Karbi Yangfo, Runa Yangfo and Pingy Namchoom of Naharlagun, who handed it over to Itanagar Zoo.
The Slow Loris was rescued by Arjun Dodum of Chimpu village near here while Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) and Indian Sand Boa were rescued by Ealvis Tallang of Lekhi village, Naharlagun and Shoba Bagang of Wada Bagang village respectively.
While informing this, the Curator of Itanagar Biological Park Raya Flago lauded the rescuers of the animals for their concern for the wildlife.
He encouraged them to continue the work of saving dwindling wildlife species due to illegal hunting and wildlife trade.
TAH work remains a non-starter in Ziro valley

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The construction of a stretch of 20 km of Trans Arunachal Highway passing through Ziro has been put to a complete halt due to intervention of the Indian Air Force (IAF) authority.
Citing flight safety, the IAF authority has intervened not to construct the portion of the road parallel to the ALG, Ziro without NOC from it. They are asking to shift/ realign the highway instead.
The astonishing fact is the issue of NOC has never arisen in similar cases of TAH involving ALGs in the state.
The shifting issue was placed in a meeting held on May 18, 2015 in Delhi by IAF representative, which was presided over by the Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highway, Govt. of India. and the meeting took into consideration this issue. Thereafter, the Secretary, MoRTH, had directed the concern authority to carry out re-alignment of that portion of the TAH passing through Ziro valley as well as to stop any further developmental activities till a final decision is arrived on this issue by Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
Now, this portion of TAH is lying like a 'dead python' for want of NOC from Indian Air Force. This only reflects the negligence towards Ziro valley by the State as well as the central governments.
President of All Lower Subansiri Highway Land Affected Association Ziro Block Nani Chatung has out rightly rejected the idea of shifting the Highway away from Ziro town; rather he is demanding shifting of the ALG from Ziro town.
Secretary of All Lower Subansiri Highway Land Affected Association Ziro Block Mihin Doilang said that they would launch democratic movement, if the NOC issue is not re-considered by the IAF for construction of the highway.
Doilang informed that they would voluntarily organize compensation assessment on Right of Way of the highway stretch of Ziro valley in order to show fairness as well as to compare voluntarily assessed amount with the officially assessed amount of compensation to avoid any unfair means.
"I fail to understand why the MoRTH, who in one occasion included Ziro in the National Highway map, which was published in Gazette India Notification dated 16th May,2008, is now back tracking and defying the sanctity of this notification."
In the meeting held on May 18, 2015, it was decided to shift this very same road passing through Ziro town away from the town.
The name of Ziro was also clearly included during the announcement of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 31, 2008 at Itanagar while announcing the Trans Arunachal Highway project from Tawang to Kanubari.
MoRTH need to change its stand immediately to construct a two lane highway on the existing road of Ziro town in the larger interest of the people of Ziro.
MLA Tage Taki told that 90 percent of the people of Ziro plateau are in favour of constructing two lane highway on the existing road of Ziro town. He also told that he and Retd. Wing Commander Gyati Kago had been to Eastern Air Command, Shillong in June, 2016 and pressed for construction of the Highway along the existing road of Ziro town.
The IAF authority has assured Taki and Kago to take up the matter at higher level for issuing NOC in this regard from IAF, which shows a ray of hope for the people of Ziro.
The solution would be more quicker, if Union Minister Kiren Rijuju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Chief Secretary play a proactive role and intervene the issue.
DC assures thorough probe into AE's death
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Longding DC has assured the delegates of Lego Lemgo Welfare Society comprising of Bam, Tao, Taju and Ruti, of a thorough probe into the cause of the disaster which led to the death of Longding PHED, Assistant Engineer, Marmi Tao. He also said that stern action will be taken against the negligent agency if proven as per the law of land.
The DC gave the assurance following the submission of a memorandum by the Lego Lemgo Welfare Society wherein, it demanded judicial inquiry into the incident which resulted into the death of AE, Marmi Tao on Aug 15 last. The AE was buried to death when the retaining wall of his official quarter collapsed due to landslide.
The Society had claimed that Tao and his wife had earlier twice complaint about the condition of the alleged newly constructed substandard retaining wall to the executing agency PWD Londging.
'It is not a natural calamity rather a manmade disaster which could have been avoided by timely action', the Society claimed and further sought clarification from the executing agency regarding their failure to take corrective measure despite the AE's repeated complaints.
Arunachal Pradesh eyes 20% growth in tourist arrivals in FY17
Mumbai, Aug 26: Arunachal Pradesh, which is hosting the second edition of the 'Songs and Dances of the North East' festival in the city, is eyeing 20 per cent rise in tourist arrival in the state in the current financial year.
"Despite physical, social as well as psychological distance, there has been a steady growth of tourists in the state. In 2015-16, we received 3.45 lakh tourists, including domestic as well as foreign. Of this, 3.4 lakh were from the country itself," Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Secretary Joram Beda told PTI here.
"Looking at the trend and our current marketing efforts we are expecting a 20 per cent rise in numbers in the state in this financial year," he added.
The first edition of the annual 'Songs and Dances of the North East' festival was held in Delhi, organised by Meghalaya.
Beda said Arunachal Pradesh is targeting premium audience so that the ecology and the natural beauty of the state is not disturbed.
Known as the 'Land of the Rising Sun', the state is located in the northeast and borders Assam and Nagaland in the south, and shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and China in the north.
Covered by the Himalayas, the state is being promoted as an 'adventure destination' as it has rivers, mountains and forests and will soon get its own airport in Tezu, he said.
"We are well connected through road and air to Assam. We also have regular helicopter services connecting us to our neighbouring state. Besides, we also connected with Delhi with a superfast train," Beda said, adding that there are plans of introducing a Rajdhani train connecting Itanagar and the national capital.
The state is also bullish on Bollywood projects to promote tourism and has regular meetings with the industry to shoot projects in the state.
On 2nd 'Songs and Dances of the North East' festival, he said, it is conceptualised and designed to bind together the diverse culture and heritage of the North East on a common platform and connect it with rest of India.
The festival's theme this year is 'Come, Experience the North East' and is sponsored by North Eastern Council (NEC).
He said the festival will showcase ethnic delicacies, music and dance, from all eight North Eastern states - Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland and Manipur. PTI
Address grievances of govt schools: ANSU
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Citing various grievances afflicting the government schools in the district inhabited by Nyishis, the All Nyishi Students Union has called on the state government to address them for uplifting the education scenario in those districts.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, ANSU highlighted the problems of shortage of subject teachers, absence of full pledged principals and headmasters in around 31 schools across Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Papum Pare and East Kameng.
The union also raised the issue of many upgraded schools which are yet to be regularized with full teachers etc, and are functioning only with up gradation on paper.
The ANSU also took up the issue of encroachment of school lands in various schools and for erecting school boundary wall for its protection.
Further, the union called for renaming the Government Women's College at Lekhi as Binni Yanga Women's College as a mark of respect for Late Yanga, who was an educationist and voice of the downtrodden and orphans.
Stating that the archeological site at Parsi Parlo was in a pathetic state, ANSU called for constructing of archeological transit camp so that it would be an asset for researchers and historians.
The union has submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister, Education Minister, Ministers and MLAs of the Nyishi community and Secretary Education.
Pema seeks central help on PIDDC
NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has asked Center to help Arunachal Pradesh tide over pending liabilities under the Project/Infrastructure Development for Destination and Circuits (PIDDC) of Ministry of Tourism which has been delinked with effect from financial year 2015-16 through a one-time assistance.
Some ongoing infrastructure projects in the state under Tourism Sector are yet to be completed in view of shortfall of released funds as against the approvals received. The Committee of Chief Ministers on CSS had also recommended for consideration of one time financial assistance from Central Government to clear pending liabilities of sanctioned projects under PIDDC.
In a meeting here on Friday with Dr Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Pema also pitched for active collaboration with the Union Ministry in development of tourism, especially high-end and adventure tourism.
While requesting the Ministry to guide the state in attracting investment in sectors like hotels, resorts, home stays and related infrastructure, he also emphasized on taking up projects to promote pilgrimage tourism at places such as Parashuram Kund, Malinithan, Tawang Monastery, etc in the state.
Dr Sharma assured the visiting Chief Minister to look into the request for one-time settlement of pending releases against PIDDC Projects.
He further agreed to host a tourism meet for Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with national level tourism-related bodies to explore and tap the huge tourism potential of the state soon.
State BJP seeks central support for Smart City, sewage, land acquisition
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: A delegation of State BJP led by its president Tapir Gao called on Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday and took up them with various developmental issues, including the issues of Smart City, sewage treatment plant in Ziro, land acquisition for defence purposes etc.
MLA Tage Taki briefed the concern Union Minister about the dire need of a sewage treatment plant in Ziro, which has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arunachal Pradesh.
Sewage treatment plant will greatly improve the sanitation situation in Ziro Township, which is very important for a tourist attraction like Ziro," said the MLA.
The Union Minister has assured to look into matter in the best possible way, the party said in a release.
With the Union Minister of Defence Parrikar, the delegation took up the issue of acquisition of land for defence purpose in Arunachal Pradesh.
The delegation impressed upon the Union Minister to look into the land acquisition cases particularly at Gumto village in Papum Pare district and Rayang village in East Siang district and expedite the completion of the acquisition process as soon possible.
Apart from this issue, the delegation also briefed the Minister about the requirement of civil terminals in Advance Landing Grounds (ALGs) in Arunachal Pradesh for enhancing tourism, trade and commerce.
The delegation included Tamar Murtem and other office bearers of the state BJP.
Segregate waste at the source: UD&H tells IMC
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Irked with the repeated breakdown of the Municipal solid waste management plant at Chimpu, Urban Development & Housing department has called on Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) to start proper segregation of biodegradable and non biodegradable wastes at the source in all the wards. The decision came after director UD&H Taba Tedir visited the plant on Thursday.
The call has come in order to avoid further damage of the machine caused by non-degradable wastes like plastic, plastic bottle, glass bottle, cloths, building/road debris which hamper the quality of service as well as break down the plant.
It is seen that bio-medical wastes are being transported and dumped at the compost plant which is beyond recognized guidelines, it said urging for bio-degradable solid wastes only to be transported to the compost plant.
The release further added that accordingly, the compost management will not allow dumping of non-biodegradable solid waste at the plant site after September 20.
Making more effective laws

The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body of Republic of India. It also has an important role of representation of the will of people of India which is done through election of Lok Sabha. Members of Parliament play a vital and critical role in formulation of legislation which determines the shape of law and order in the country along with providing other necessary rights for wellbeing of citizens.
A bill which further becomes Act and takes the form of law can be brought through two means. First one is the Government Bill like recent GST bill brought by the Government and other is Private Members' Bill brought by other MPs outside Council of Ministers. The Right to Transgenders Bill by Mr. Tiruchi Siva is one prime example.
Two Private Members Bill had been introduced by me in last few sessions of the Parliament.
First one being the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2015 introduced on 18th December 2015 which seeks to include five tribes known as other Naga tribes who do not have any identity in the Constitution.
Therefore, they do not enjoy the benefits of reservation as applicable to other Scheduled Tribes. The tribes are 'Tangsa', 'Nocte', 'Tutcha', 'Wangchoo' and 'Yobin' of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Hence, it is important that these tribes may be recognized and listed as the Scheduled Tribes in respect of the State of Arunachal Pradesh in the Scheduled Tribes list order.
The other bill named as The State Of Arunachal Pradesh (Amendment) Bill, 2016 introduced on 5th August, 2016 to establish a High Court for the state of Arunachal Pradesh at Itanagar.
A separate and permanent High Court for Arunachal Pradesh is demanded by the people of the State from long time now. Although there exists a bench of Gauhati High Courtat Itanagar but due to escalating burden of pending cases and myriad historical facts, a separate high court should be established in Arunachal Pradesh very soon.
When the State of Arunachal Pradesh Act, 1986, provided for a common high court the population and dynamics of administration of the state was very different from the present times. Now, the State faces many problems, such as law and order, border management, illegal activities, insurgency, inter-State disputes, etc. which have raised number of cases at a rapid rate. In order to have a proper and time bound justice to the people, a separate High Court of Arunachal Pradesh is required now which will meet the needs and aspirations of the people. This will help them in getting justice timely without making unnecessary expenditures.
I hope that these two bills can be taken up for the debate in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. This will not only allow excluded tribes to have their rights but also let people of Arunachal Pradesh have their own High Court which will provide them speedy justice. It is high time that the Union Government must look into these bills and cooperate to make these bills as acts.
DDSE assures to redress basic shortages in schools

PASIGHAT, Aug 26: East Siang DDSE Jongge Yirang has assured to do his best to redress the basic shortages in the schools at Mebo sub-division under East Siang.
The DDSE was attending a meeting of all School Management Committees (SMCs) of the area convened by the 39 Mebo Intellectual Forum (39MIF) at Mebo on Thursday. The DDSE also suggested the 39MIF and SMCs to arrange for mutual transfer posting from the area for filling in the teacher vacancies. He also agreed for posting more teachers in schools like UPS Namsing and Borguli which are running short of teachers.
Earlier, the executive members of 39MIF and School Management Committees highlighted their grievances and various shortcomings in the proper functioning of the schools.
Retired Director, Bodong Yirang, Block Education Officers Dilip Perme, Litem Perme and others also attended the meeting. The negligence of teachers in taking classes was also presented by SMC members before the DDSE and BEOs.
MLA asks agriculture functionaries to remain proactive
PASIGHAT, Aug 26: Nari Koyu MLA, Kento Rina on Friday urged the functionaries of the agriculture department to be proactive and impart training on modern farming technologies to the farmers.
He was addressing Agricultural Field Assistants from 13 districts of the state during a valedictory function of a ten-day long entrepreneurship development training programme for extension functionaries on 'Cultivation, Spawn Production and Processing of Oyster Mushroom' at the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, here on Friday. He also spoke on the potentials of oyster mushroom cultivation in the region.
College of Horticulture and Forestry, Dean, Dr A K Pandey and Course Director and Principal Investigator of AICRP on Mushroom, Dr R C Shakywar also spoke on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Minggam Taloh of Arunachal Pradesh has been selected to play for North East's top football Club Shillong Lajong's U-16 team.
A Class IX student of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Minggam is son of Takam Taloh of Pasighat in East Siang district.
The promising football player Minggam Taloh was training under the guidance of Football Coach of SLSA TD Wangja, since 2013.
Meanwhile, the entire coaching and teaching staff of SLSA and the staff of both the Directorate of Sports and Directorate of Youth Affairs wished him all the best for his bright football career.

Debom Kaye Mengu gave BSC an early lead in 15th minute before Kamin Darin, Kisu Kakki and Ogam Nonang scored one each for their team.
Poor finishing cost dearly the Sika-Tode FC as the team failed to score despite their best efforts.
Frankline Taki scored the consolation goal for Sika-Tode FC.
Mongku FC will take on Takilalung FC in next match on August 28 in the same venue at 2 pm.
APIC impose penalty
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission has imposed a penalty of Rs 25000/- on PIO cum BDO, CD block, Bana, East Kameng district for deliberately defying the orders of the commission in connection with the appeal case no. APIC-101/2016 made by one Taje Tajo.
The commission further directed that in case of his failure to comply with the order, arrest warrant will be issued against the PIO.
Bar association to boycott court
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The Papum Pare Capital Complex District Bar Association will boycott court proceeding at district court complex Yupia on Aug 29 to protest against autocratic behavior of District and Session Judge, Yupia.
Association has alleged District and Session Judge, Yupia Jaweplu Chai of ill treating a practicing lawyer in the court room without any provocation.
"The advocates practicing in the Yupia court will observe the day as no work day and will sit in a protest. We strongly condemn her unlawful behavior which caused humiliation to the fraternity," the association stated.
Constable missing, police suspect kidnapping
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Constable Tage Soni of First IRBn, Deomali is suspected to have been kidnapped, and a case has been registered at Deomali Police Station U/S 365 of IPC in this regard after a complaint was received from his wife, informed Tirap SP.
According to the complainant, Constable Soni left Deomali for Itanagar on June 14, 2016 to appear before Investigating Officer of Women Police Station, Itanagar in connection with a case as per command certificate issued by the Platoon Commander, 1st IRBn, Deomali, the SP said.
But till date, he has not reported to the Women Police Station at Itanagar and his whereabouts is still not known, SP said.
An enquiry was conducted by police to trace the missing constable, but he could not be found. According to the enquiry officer, he might have been kidnapped, the SP said. (DIPRO)
Awareness campaign on SBM and public sanitation
PANGIN, Aug 26: An awareness campaign on Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and public sanitation was held at Paman Club, Boleng on August 24. The campaign was conducted by the Department of Urban Development & Housing Division, Boleng in collaboration with the Siang district administration.
Speaking in the function, Siang Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Singh emphasized for strictly discouraging open defecation stating that most of the communicable diseases are spread due to open defecation. He further appealed the public to make behavioural changes for healthy sanitation practices and try to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes in every household
ADC, Boleng, Taro Mize requested the dwellers of Boleng town to give full cooperation in keeping the town clean. He appealed the gathering to imbibe civic sense to help the initiative of door to door collection of garbage being done by the department of Urban Development & Housing in Boleng town.
Resource person, Deputy Director (UD & H), Sonkoli Sonam made a presentation on Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and public sanitation in which he explained the mission objectives, strategies and mission components to the gathering. He also laid out the short term and long term plan under the city sanitation plan to keep the Boleng Town neat and clean.
It was also informed that the City Sanitation Task Force will be formed under City Sanitation Plan to regularly review and monitor the cleanliness of govt. establishments, schools and other public places in the town.
Various stakeholders including Heads of Offices, school teachers, students, religious leaders, Market Associations of Boleng, public leaders and others attended the daylong programme.
During the awareness campaign, the suggestions were also taken from the town dwellers. The Swachhta pledge was also taken and 60 plastic dustbins were distributed to schools, religious places, govt. offices, market places etc.
Cement dealer booked under Legal Metrology Law
CHANGLANG, Aug 26: A cement trader of Changlang Market has been booked for violation of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011 and the corresponding Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
The trader was caught selling of packaged commodities much higher than the printed price in an unannounced inspection and checking of trading units at Changlang Township on Thursday by the Officers of the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affair, Changlang.
The cement dealer was found to be selling Ambuja Cement and Max Cement at Rs.470 and Rs.390 respectively, while the items had maximum retail price of Rs.400 and Rs.380 (inclusive of all taxes) respectively printed on the packages by manufacturer/packer. It is a breach of the provisions of the Act and Rules, which attracts penal action as per the law, stated a department release.
Further, it was also found that the dealer was not keeping and using any weighing machine in his trading premises for weighing of cement packages as required under the provisions of the said Act and Rules in order to facilitate the consumers to check the weight of their packaged commodities purchased from the shop, as cement bag losses its content during storage as well as transportation besides due to wear and tear.
AAPNRCA alleges illegal appointment
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Claiming that more than 34 posts of AMOs, AROs and AFA (Jr) were appointed illegally in the Department of Agriculture during December-January last, the All Arunachal Pradesh Non-Registration Contractors' Association (AAPNRCA) has demanded suspension of the Department's director.
In its representation to the chief secretary asking for the posts to be advertised in the local dailies for fair recruitment, it alleged that the appointments were made without advertising the posts in the local dailies; neither did it follow the recruitment norms.
Also calling for the case to be handed over to SIT to unearth the truth within 14 days, the association threatened to launch series of democratic movement if the demands are not fulfilled.

Society says no to NES, CALSOM resolution
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The Cherom-Chera Welfare Society (CCWS) has nullified the resolution passed between Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) over the Aug 14 Tezu incident which was initiated by Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF).
The CCWS chairman Tadar Changriang said that the community based organizations drafted the resolutions in absence of the actual victims and his clan members which is not acceptable. He added that the CCWS was neither informed about the meeting nor they gave NES the authority to represent on their behalf.
Earlier on August 21, the NES and CALSOM under the banner of Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum held a meeting wherein it was decided that CALSOM would facilitate a public meeting where the accused will seek apology from the victim in written.
Addressing a press conference here at Arunachal Press Club on Friday, Changriang said that they will write to the CALSOM to bring all the accused at IG Park within one week to discuss regarding the apology. He added that the accused will not be harmed in any manner.
Further, the CCWS has demanded the Pema Khandu led government to immediately disclose the 60 pages notes reportedly written by former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul to ascertain whether any member of Cherom Chera clan is responsible for his death.

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: An extensive training programme on e-Samaj Portal, an online portal of WCD Department for the officials of District ICDS Cell, Yupia and ICDS Project, Itanagar, Naharlagun and Nirjuli was organised from Aug 16 to 26. The Department of Information Technology & Communication and the Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh jointly organised the training.
Project Officer (IT), Banya Boje and CIC Operator, Gyammar Siko conducted the training programme at district ICDS cell Yupia, ICDS Project Itanagar, ICDS Project Naharlagun and ICDS Project Nirjuli. At the end of the programme, a master trainer has been identified from each centre.
The e-Samaj portal of WCD department will maintain a central repository of all the data entered at various levels of department and break the geographical hindrance of physical reach, thereby helping in compiling and consolidating real-time data and generate reports with response time greatly reduced. Further the cost involved in the decision-making process will reduced with accuracy of information considerably improved and thereby improving the quality of the decision.
The other services available are online application for Adoption of child, foster care, Welfare Institutions and also to provide facility to generate Monthly Progress Report which captures details data of child beneficiaries, women beneficiaries, number of nutrition values etc of Anganwadi centres.
6th State Weightlifting Championship
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The 6th State Weightlifting Championship will be conducted from Sept 10 to 11 at SAI/SAG Centre Naharlagun by the Arunachal Weightlifting Association (AWA).
The AWA also informed that the international weightlifters who are currently at the National Coaching camps for various international competitions-2016 shall be exempted from taking part in the state championship.
The 5th State Weightlifting Championship was conducted on the sidelines of the 1st State Olympic Games held last year at the same venue where lifters from the 12 districts had participated.
Team visits Langbia for Model college
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: A team of officers from the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education on Friday visited Langbia village at Palin under Kra Daadi district to assess the construction activities undertaken in the Model Degree College site. The team comprising Minto Ete, Deputy SPD (RUSA), Dr. A I Singh, OSD (RUSA) and Joram Muthu OSD (RUSA) inspected the administrative building and bachelor barrack constructed from UGC/RUSA fund. It is found that there are 11 rooms in administrative building and 4 separate rooms attached with wash room, kitchen, living room and guest room in the bachelor barrack.
While interacting with the executing agency, the team advised to maintain quality as per the guidelines and the Detailed Project Report. "There shall be no compromise with quality while constructing academic institution as it shall create human capital in future for the state in general and the district and its surrounding areas in particular," the visiting told the executing agency.
The team also requested the administration for constant monitoring of construction works in the college site including the approach road from the main tri-junction onwards to the site. They further requested the public and local denizens to extent their full cooperation for smooth and early completion of the project so that the institution can start its academic session at the earliest.

VKV conducts course on Sanskrit
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: About 65 participants registered for a 10 month-long non-formal course of teaching and learning Sanskrit which was organized by the Vivekananda Kendra at VKV, Nirjuli recently.
Addressing the inaugural function, VKV, Nirjuli, APT Education officer, PM Unni Krishnan highlighted the features, content and purpose of the program which he said, can be availed by any interested person who aspires to learn Sanskrit.
He further called for more participation in such unique programme organized by the Vivekananda Kendra.
ALSDSU warns more bandhs
ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The All Lower Subansiri District Students' Union (ALSDSU) has warned of going ahead with its second phase of 36 hours Lower Subansiri district bandh from September 14 to 15 next if the district administration does not respond to the charter of demands by September 5 next. The union has written to the DC in this regard.
The union has been demanding immediate maintenance of the road stretch from Potin to Bopi, immediate execution of Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) and action against illegal government land encroachers in the districts. Its first phase of bandh call was observed on August 11 last.
